Eco Tour

Lorsque j'habitais le quartier Mount Please à Vancouver en 2016,

j'ai vu cette annonce : 

Les résidents étaient invités à organiser un événement pour rendre leur quartier plus éco-responsable, et s'il répondait aux critères, celui-ci était systématiquement financé par la ville. Étant fascinée par tous les commerces écolos du quartier, et stupéfaites que plusieurs d'entres eux soient encore trop peu connus du public, j'ai eu l'idée d'organiser un TOUR guidé des initiatives écologiques du quartier. 

Ma collègue Kendra a fait la carte et m'a assistée comme photographe.

Mount Pleasant Neighbourhood Eco Tour

This is your chance to discover awesome local and sustainable initiatives in Mount Pleasant!
You'll get to know some of your neighbours, meet some business owners and experiment the best of your local shops. Be ready for some great surprises along the way!

Matchstick Café and Roastery 
Get a free fresh and delicious local coffee by bringing your own mug or thermos.
See behind the scene... get a visit of the roaster and learn ‘‘the process of taking coffee from its green stage (the clean, dried seed
of a coffee plant) to a drinkable stage’’.


Spool of Thread Sewing Lounge
Learning how to make and fix things yourself is definitely a great gift for the planet and for your wallet. 
Therefore, I’ll introduce you to a great place where you can get sewing classes and rent sewing machines, irons and an  industrial sized cutting table by the hour. $8/hour.  

Urban Source
Meet Vicky, the founder and owner of this Alternative Art Material shop. Fill a bulk bag that would have otherwise gone to waste and let your creativity make beauty out of it.





Cobs Bread
The lovely couple that owns Cobs Bread on Main will welcome us in their bakery for a tasting and explanations about Sourdough,
the healthiest bread because of the natural yeast fermentation. Yummy!


Soap Dispensary 
We'll meet Linh, the friendly founder of this cool place and we’ll learn about the story of this shop as well as the products we  can refill. 
One rule: Bring a 250ml container (more or less) and we'll fill it with a surprise product!



August Market
We’ll get a tasting of local Kombucha on tap! This small neighbourhood market have 8 different flavours !


Bird on a Wire Creations
Bird on a Wire Creations is a store and a community of people who support artists, artisans, and the buy local movement.
We’ll get to know a bit more about this great shop.


Pedal Society Our Community Bikes
This Coop recycles so many bikes, parts and accessories, and redirects waste from the landfill by the tons every year!
One of the  largest amounts of material they recycle is rubber; inner tubes and tires.
How about helping them save a few on our visit ?
We’ll learn to patch and prepare used and punctured inner tubes for resale!
This is a great shop to stop by when you need replacement parts or advices to fix your bike.




The Rag Machine
Besides being the cheapest option for used clothing, The Rag Machine will divert approximately 50 tons of used clothing from  going to landfill each year.
Quite simply, there is no better place to buy your used and vintage clothing. We’ll give it a look! 

 

Cartems Dunoterie
Cartems is all about quality ingredients, creative flavour, and making people smile, one donut at a time.
Their ingredients are  fresh, and sourced from as close to home as possible, and organic wherever they can.
We’ll learn a bit more about their  sourcing and we’ll taste delicious handmade from scratch doughnuts!


Faculty Brewing
They will have someone to speak about sustainable practices they use in the brewery (e.g. their hot liquor tank, CIP practices  and composting) as well as growler fills and how their beer is made in house. And we’ll end the tour by enjoying a beer all  together!
